Allah Almighty is Al Ahad and As-Samad

The Qur’an introduces us to the beautiful and powerful attributes of Allah Almighty, each of which holds deep wisdom, guidance, and reflection for our lives. Among the most profound of these attributes are Al Ahad (The One and Only) and As-Samad (The Eternal Refuge). Both appear in Surah Al-Ikhlas —a chapter so concise yet so complete that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ described it as equivalent to one-third of the Qur’an (Sahih al-Bukhari). Al Ahad — The One and Only “Say: He is Allah, the One.” (Surah Al-Ikhlas 112:1) The name Al Ahad emphasizes Allah’s absolute Oneness and uniqueness. Unlike anything in creation, Allah has no partner, no rival, no equal. While the human mind often compares and categorizes, Allah is beyond all forms of similarity. He is not just “one” in number, but One in essence, One in power, One in perfection . This attribute teaches us the foundation of Tawheed (belief in the Oneness of Allah). It reminds us that all acts of worship—prayer, supplication, sacri...

Allah Almighty: Al Awwal and Al Akhir

In the vast tapestry of the universe, Allah Almighty is known as Al Awwal (The First) and Al Akhir (The Last). These divine attributes signify that Allah is the beginning and the end of everything, encompassing the entirety of existence from the inception to the culmination. This concept not only highlights His eternal nature but also His ultimate wisdom and control over all creation. Al Awwal: The First Allah’s attribute as Al Awwal signifies that He is the origin of everything. Nothing precedes Him, and He is the source from which all creation emerges. The Quran beautifully encapsulates this idea in Surah Al-A'raf (7:54): "Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds." This ...

Allah is Gafoor-ur-Raheem: A Divine Compassion Transforming Hearts

In the tapestry of Islamic teachings, one of the most profound attributes of Allah is His boundless mercy and forgiveness. The Quran frequently emphasizes that Allah is "Gafoor-ur-Raheem" (The Most Forgiving, The Most Merciful), a reminder that His mercy can reach even those who have committed the gravest sins. This divine compassion is vividly illustrated in the transformation of individuals who once engaged in heinous acts such as burying their daughters alive or mocking the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Pre-Islamic Practice of Burying Daughters Alive Before the advent of Islam, the Arabian Peninsula was engulfed in a period of ignorance known as Jahiliyyah. One of the most egregious practices of this era was the burying of newborn daughters alive, driven by a combination of economic hardship and misplaced notions of honor. The Quran explicitly condemns this act in several verses, shedding light on its severity and the need for change. Allah says in the Qur...
